Mere Dentistry, we love being able to help our patients find their newly confident smile, and teeth whitening is now more popular than ever.

How does teeth whitening work?

Teeth whitening uses a whitening agent, normally hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide to safely and effectively brighten the teeth. The bleaching agent permeates the enamel of the teeth and breaks down the discoloured molecules there, leaving the teeth brighter and whiter.

Is teeth whitening safe?

When carried out under the supervision of a dental professional, teeth whitening is completely safe. Even if you choose to use home-based products, we’ll show you exactly how to use them, including your whitening trays which protect the gums from the whitening agent as you brighten the teeth.

Which products do you offer?

We work with Pola Whitening and Philips Zoom! to provide our patients with safe and effective teeth whitening products.

Can I whiten my teeth at home?

Yes, we offer home-based treatments here at Mere Dentistry, which can start to produce results within two weeks of use.

How much whiter will my teeth be?

This depends on the shade of the teeth at the start of the treatment, the product chosen to whiten the teeth, and the lifestyle and diet choices of the individual patient. For example, patients who smoke, and drink coffee, tea, red wine and/or coloured sports drinks in large quantities often have more staining on their teeth. These factors can also lead to the effects of whitening being lost more quickly after the treatment.

How long do the results last?

This depends on each individual patient, as well as the products used, but most treatments last up to six months, and can be prolonged and maintained by topping up with at-home whitening.
