Missing Teeth

Missing teeth pose a threat to the future oral wellbeing of the patient, while also affecting how they speak and eat and their smile confidence.

Where possible, we always advise replacing a missing tooth or multiple missing teeth. Missing teeth can have an adverse effect on the patient’s smile confidence and overall sense of self and wellbeing, affect their everyday speech and ability to eat, and go on to cause a multitude of further oral health issues.

What causes missing teeth?

  • Advanced gum disease.
  • Advanced tooth decay.
  • An injury to the face.
  • Naturally missing teeth – also known as hypodontia or congenitally missing teeth (CMT).

What oral health issues can missing teeth contribute to or cause?

  • Movement/misalignment of remaining healthy teeth.
  • Food and debris getting trapped in the gap or gaps left behind.
  • Tooth decay.
  • Loss of jawbone density.
  • Changes to the facial structure.
