Fillings

When a tooth is in need of repair due to damage or decay, our expert, welcoming team at Mere Dentistry are able to help with fillings.

Fillings are one of the most commonly received dental treatments and are designed to help repair a tooth that has become damaged or decayed. Designed to fill a hole that has formed in the tooth, fillings can restore a damaged tooth to full function, leaving the patient able to retain their natural tooth happily and healthily.

Why do I need a filling?

Fillings are needed when a cavity (or carie) needs to be filled in and repaired so that the tooth can be returned to full function. This may be a result of tooth decay, wear and tear, or because of an injury to the face.

What are the symptoms related to needing a filling?

  • Increased sensitivity.
  • Pain when chewing or biting down.

Not all patients who need a filling will experience these symptoms, and with regular check-ups and examinations here, our team may be able to diagnose your need for a filling without you having to experience any unnecessary pain or sensitivity.

What are fillings made from?

The most popular types of filling are metal amalgam and composite. Metal amalgam fillings are popular because they are hard-wearing, durable, and cost-effective, while composite fillings are popular because they fit in with the rest of the mouth and offer a much more subtle and natural-looking finish.

What is the treatment process like?

Most fillings can be placed during just one appointment. Our team understand that for some patients, the prospect of such a treatment can be a cause for concern, but with our gentle approach and kind, welcoming team members, there’s no need to be worried at Mere Dentistry

During the treatment we’ll simply:

  • Apply a numbing cream before local anaesthetic, so you don’t feel a thing while we’re treating you.
  • Remove the decayed parts of the tooth in question.
  • Thoroughly clean the tooth and surrounding area.
  • Place the filling.
  • Smile – you’ll be able to leave the practice with a fully restored tooth!
  • Interested in learning more? Our team are on hand to help answer any questions you may have about fillings or to simply help you book an appointment.
