Bridges

With root canal treatments, our highly trained team at Mere Dentistry can help restore a tooth to full function, and leave our patients smiling happily again.

At Mere Dentistry, a gap in the smile can easily be fixed with a bridge.

Bridges are just one of the tooth replacement options we offer here at Mere Dentistry, but they remain one of the most popular ways to restore a smile with missing teeth. Cost-effective and relatively easy to place and look after, bridges can be a useful way to bring full function to a mouth, and a happy smile to a patient’s face.

What is a bridge?

Bridges help to bridge a gap in a smile. Replacing one or multiple teeth, a bridge uses the adjacent healthy teeth plus one or two newly placed crowns to anchor a new prosthesis in place.

Why do I need a bridge?

Our team at Mere Dentistry will always go through all your replacement options with you at an initial consultation, but we always recommend replacing a missing tooth where necessary. Missing teeth can lead to many further oral health problems, cause difficulties eating and speaking, and affect the aesthetic finish of your smile.

There are several different types of bridge available including:

  • Conventional/traditional bridges One of the most used bridges, this type of bridge uses both adjacent teeth to place the prosthetic teeth, which are held in place by crowns.
  • Maryland/bonded bridges These bridges use a metal framework that is attached to either one or both adjacent healthy teeth.
  • Cantilever bridges Using just one healthy adjacent tooth, cantilever bridges are a great option when only one healthy tooth is available for support and/or on teeth towards the front of the mouth.

How long does the treatment take?

Most bridges can be placed over two appointments, with a wait of a few weeks in between while your personal bridge/prosthetic is made for you.

What is the treatment process like?

  • At your first appointment we’ll prepare the adjacent anchor teeth or tooth.
  • We’ll take a digital scan of the mouth.
  • The dental laboratory will make your personal bridge using these scans.
  • Your personal bridge will be fitted for you here by our expert team.
  • You’ll leave the practice with a brand-new, happy, healthy smile.
