With nearly two decades of clinical practice behind her, Henriette is the multi-award-winning hygienist with an eye for details, precise hands and a calmly professional manner.
Trained at Stellenbosch University in South Africa, she combined clinical practice with periods of lecturing where she garnered considerable respect from colleagues in the dental profession. Her arrival in the UK ten years ago was followed by the accolades and
National Awards, together with a string of top reviews from patients, fellow clinicians and specialists.
Above all, her strength is in seeking to understand each clinical problem thoroughly and in working tenaciously to solve each aspect of the problem. Team-working with the patient gets her results even with those who have seen several clinicians without completing their treatment.
Add her broad awareness of underlying causes such as undiagnosed diabetes, lesions of the mouth or vitamin deficiencies and it is clear that her clinical care has solid foundations.

Helen Astill BSc (Hons.) Health Science / Nutritional Therapy, EDH – Diploma in Dental Hygiene
I love living in Somerset, with its rolling hills and friendly communities. Me and my family have lived here for over a decade now and my children have been lucky to be born and grow up in a such a fantastic part of the country.
Originally from Hampshire, I worked, studied and qualified as a Dental Nurse before moving to London to Study at The Eastman Dental Hospital as a Dental Hygienist. Although I enjoyed my work very much as a hygienist, I felt my student days were not over. Nutritional Therapy was my next studying route. This has complemented my role as a hygienist over the years and allowed me to help my patients, with a wide knowledge base.
I am very much looking forward to joining Waheed Syed and Jyothsna Mekala and the team at Mere Dentistry Practice in May 2018, taking on some of the patients that Laura has looked after so well over the past years.
Working in a small community like Mere is an exciting prospect for me. I have worked in other local towns since moving to the area in 2003. Getting to know the people over the years and being able to deliver continuity of care is a rewarding aspect to my role. Being nervous of attending the dental practice is not uncommon. I have a gentle approach to dental hygiene and have a long track record of helping people overcome their apprehensions.
“The mouth is the mirror of the body” (Sir William Osier - a founding father of Medicine). This is something I have come to believe in more and more in my twenty-plus years of working in dentistry. The oral cavity is the first section of the gastrointestinal tract and this is something that should be remembered and respected.
Looking after your mouth, teeth and gums is a worthwhile goal. Good oral hygiene is essential for preventing and treating gum disease. Also, it is important for the prevention of tooth decay and bad breath. Recent research has also showed that a healthy mouth can help with serious systemic problems, like hearth disease, strokes and diabetes, to name but some.
I look forward to meeting and treating many of the people of Mere and surrounding villages in the near future.

We're incredibly proud to announce that one of our lead nurses Tracy has run 5K in the Race for Life this week in order to raise money for charity!
Tracy raised £160.00 in support of Cancer Research, an organisation dedicated to find the cure for cancer and offering care to many across the country who are in need of constant care and support. We at Mere Dentistry are hugely supportive to the cause and cannot congratulate Tracy enough.
To help celebrate, Tracey has had a relaxing weekend at the spa in Torquay. We all hope you enjoyed yourself Tracy!
